EXTERNAL VACUUM PUMP
(NOT INCLUDED)

Figure 24
While the EXO-FORMER 24 does not include an EXTERNAL VACUUM PUMP, using one
will allow you to form plastic sheets in thicknesses from .015 to .250
with much greater detail than would be possible with the INTERNAL VACUUM
MOTOR alone.
EXTERNAL VACUUM PUMPS will allow you to pull almost a full vacuum, which is
close to 14.7 PSI, as opposed to the INTERNAL VACUUM MOTOR which only pulls
approximately 5 PSI. However, most VACUUM PUMPS have a low CFM rating,
whereas the INTERNAL VACUUM MOTOR has a high CFM rating.
The advantage of using the EXO-FORMER 24 with both the INTERNAL VACUUM MOTOR
and an optional EXTERNAL VACUUM PUMP is that you get the advantage of high
CFM combined with high vacuum pressure. In operation, the INTERNAL VACUUM
MOTOR rapidly evacuates almost all of the air from between the FORMING TABLE
and the thermoplastic sheet. Once this occurs, the CHECK VALVE inside the
EXO-FORMER 24 automatically detects the air pressure difference and closes,
thereby allowing the attached EXTERNAL VACUUM PUMP to take over and now
virtually remove all of the air that is left between the FORMING TABLE and
the plastic sheet. This results in a finished piece with the greatest detail
possible that can be achieved with cost effective industrial vacuum pumps.
The degree to which you can evacuate the remaining air using an EXTERNAL
VACUUM PUMP depends on the quality of the pump used. Before buying an
EXTERNAL VACUUM PUMP, check that the manufacturers specifications meet your
requirements.
